The 1600 hectare (almost 4000 acre) master plan for the Wieringerrandmeer is a design proposal for a new lake that will detach a former island from the mainland, to which it was connected since the inundation in 1930. The new lake will boost the local economy through the development of 2100 new homes on residential islands along with new roads and bridges, wetlands, and uninhabited islands for recreational use and recreation.
